Currently our property and accommodations are wrapping up final touches and are ready for bookings.

The property is 2 acres and exists 20 minutes from Hilo airport between Kea'au and Hilo.  We broke ground in 1997 and have been diligently landscaping, building, clearing invasive species, and gardening ever since. While the work is never done it has really turned into a gem.

The property contains the Owner's residence, the double greenhouse Complex which contains the 3 private bedrooms, kitchen and community room and community garden, and the Bath House containing the private bathroom and private shower stall. Pure rainwater collected in holding tanks is our water source and minimal electrical use helps to reduce our environmental footprint. Additionally some food production helps to reduce our food dependence. This piece of paradise started as a place to rest our head and secure belongings. Over the years it has turned into so much more. It now has a thousand stories to tell and a million memories to share. Every board was crafted by my hand and every rock stacked with care. It has tortured me and made me sore. Yet always rewarded me and gave back more. It is my life's work and it's done for free, it's been done for me. Now that things have fallen into place and it's time to share.

COMMON AREAS

One 28' x 36' greenhouse has been converted into a kitchen, private bedrooms, workshop and recreation area. The adjoining greenhouse is a functioning garden that is maintained and used by all on property. Our projects are on a shoestring budget so development will be as resources allow. These include decorative walls, higher garden beds, pathways, additional cement/slab area, laundry washer and dryer, irrigation and the list goes on.

OUR GARDEN

The main vegetable garden is located in one of the connected greenhouses. Flowing within the main living area created a true garden living environment. The objective of this garden is to provide supplemental food to all on the property. It will provide salad greens, peppers, tomatoes, misc. veggies, strawberries and herbs. Everything will be grown in the ground and watered from our rainwater collection system. We utilize organic growing methods as much as possible but do step outside the organic realm to deal with local conditions, pests, etc.. We love our soil, plants, property and ourselves so stewardship is #1. Most of the hard work is done but with ongoing efforts the rewards will be plentiful. The outside garden is scattered throughout the property. Many trees are maturing and thriving, others are struggling along dealing with pests, competition and imported viruses. The goal of this area is to provide a perennial food source that provides abundance at peak harvest. Some examples are avocados, breadfruit , citrus, and bananas. Other traditional root crops like taro, cassava, and sweet potato are going to be increased significantly. These root crops supply high quality starchy food that provides real sustenance to our diet. Like any property, garden, or lawn it's never really done. Things develop over time and plants grow at their own pace. Overall it's a great way to be simple, stay grounded, nurture life and take part in the natural systems that sustain us and all living things.
